Preachy Fiction

I haven’t read it. But … I hold this up to all my Christian and/or conservative writer friends who insist that we ought not preach in our books. Everyone else is preaching and we need to preach also. We need to do it well–I hope none of you will write thinly veiled propaganda and call it a novel. But, more preaching please.

I mean, go and read the reviews of this book. It has it all: An evil man making a girl tape up her nipples; an irritating white feminist needing to check her privilege; a poor, sunburned brown girl who can’t wear a bra; and a title that is loud and proud.

Just for fun? Leave a conservative-social-justice-warrior title below.

—I DON’T BAKE CAKES FOR GAY WEDDINGS
—BOYS WILL BE BOYS AND THEY’LL NEVER BE GIRLS
—ANYTHING A BOY CAN DO A GIRL CAN DO BETTER ESPECIALLY WHEN THE GIRL IS A TRANSGENDER SWIMMER.

Those are some messages I’d like to put into novels for teens. I wonder if  my titles would turn people off.

Seriously? I wonder how many kids will pick up Does My Body Offend You? and read it of their own free will. I am betting it will be “an important book” and required reading in many high schools, though.
